Manganese dioxide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula MnO2. It is a black amorphous powder or black orthorhombic crystal. It is insoluble in water, weak acid, weak alkali, nitric acid and cold sulfuric acid. It dissolves in concentrated hydrochloric acid under heating and produces chlorine gas. . Used in the preparation of manganese salts, and also used as oxidants, rust removers, and catalysts
1. Manganese dioxide is mainly used as a depolarizing agent in dry batteries.
2. A very good decolorizing agent in the glass manufacturing industry, which can oxidize low-priced iron salts into high-priced iron salts, turning the blue-green color in the glass into weak yellow.
3. Used in the electronics industry to make manganese-zinc ferrite magnetic materials.
4. Used as raw material for iron-manganese alloy in steel-making industry and heat-increasing agent in casting industry.
5. Absorbent for carbon monoxide in gas masks.
6. In the chemical industry, it is used as an oxidant, a catalyst for organic synthesis, and a desiccant for paints and inks.
7. Combustion accelerant in the match industry.
8. Raw materials for glazes and manganese salts for ceramics and enamels
9. It is also used in fireworks, water purification, iron removal, medicine, fertilizer and fabric printing and dyeing.
