Ammonium bicarbonate is a white compound with the chemical formula NH4HCO3. It is in the form of granular, plate-like or columnar crystals and has an ammonia odor. Ammonium bicarbonate is a carbonate, so it must not be placed together with acid, because the acid will react with the ammonium bicarbonate to produce carbon dioxide, which will cause the ammonium bicarbonate to deteriorate. However, in rural areas, ammonium bicarbonate can also be used to react with acid.
