Feed grade calcium formate is a calcium salt containing formic acid. It contains 31% calcium and 69% formic acid. It has a neutral pH value and low moisture content. Mixing calcium formate into the additive premix will not cause vitamin loss. And under the action of gastric acid, free formic acid can be separated and the gastric pH value can be reduced. Calcium formate has a high melting point and can decompose above 400°C, and will not be damaged during the granulation process.
1) Lowering the pH value of the gastrointestinal tract is beneficial to activating pepsinogen, making up for the lack of digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid secretion in the stomach of piglets, and improving the digestibility of feed nutrients. Prevents the growth and reproduction of E. coli and other pathogenic bacteria, while promoting the growth of some beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacilli. Lactobacillus and other beneficial bacteria can cover the intestinal mucosa to protect it from the intrusion of toxins produced by Escherichia coli, thus preventing the occurrence of diarrhea related to bacterial infection.
2) Formic acid, as an organic acid, can act as a chelating agent during digestion and promote the absorption of minerals in the intestines.
3) Other uses of calcium formate: as a new feed additive. Feed calcium formate to gain weight. Using calcium formate as a feed additive for piglets can increase piglet appetite and reduce diarrhea rates.
